What we like

  • Heat-treated thermo-spruce resists rot and moisture
  • Contoured benches with lumbar support
  • Limited lifetime warranty
  • Wi-Fi LED lighting and a bronze glass door included

What we don't

  • Heater sold separately (budget $1,200–$2,000)
  • About $950 freight shipping on top of the kit price
  • Owners say the instructions are poor

The SaunaLife E6 is a three-person outdoor barrel sauna made from thermally modified spruce, with contoured thermo-aspen benches, a bronze glass door and a limited lifetime warranty. As of October 2026, it lists at about $4,390. It’s our #1 barrel sauna because it brings SaunaLife’s materials and warranty to the lowest price of any barrel we’d buy.

Is the SaunaLife E6 worth it?

The SaunaLife E6 is worth it if you want a traditional barrel sauna on a budget without settling for untreated spruce. The trade-offs are the ones every barrel shares: limited headroom and lower benches, plus a heater and freight bill on top of the kit price.

Great for

  • One or two people who want real heat and steam outdoors
  • Buyers who prefer the classic barrel look
  • Cold or wet climates, thanks to the thermo-spruce

Skip it if

  • You’re over six feet tall. Look at a cube like the CL3G.
  • You want the heater included. The Redwood Barrel ships with one.

Heat and performance

The SaunaLife E6 encloses little air, so a 6kW heater brings it up to temperature quickly. That’s the barrel shape’s main advantage. The weak spot is stratification: with benches low relative to the heater, your feet sit in cooler air. Barrel owners’ most effective fix is a small fan. One says a fan “solves most of the heat stratification at the cost of some white noise”. Another mounted a small USB fan low, pointing up at an angle, and saw a noticeable difference.

Size, power and installation

The SaunaLife E6 measures 59″ long by 81″ in diameter outside (51″ × 77″ inside). It needs a 240V circuit for the electric heater, a level base, and access for freight delivery. Barrel owners report assembly taking around 4–5 hours with two people. The steel bands need re-tensioning in the first season as the staves settle.

Build quality and durability

The SaunaLife E6 uses 1.65″ thermo-spruce staves outside and thermo-aspen benches inside, with contoured, lumbar-supporting seats rather than flat planks. Its bronze tempered glass door looks good, but owners of SaunaLife’s glass-front EE6G report a cracked plastic door hinge at five months and a door that never sealed. Inspect the E6’s door hardware carefully at assembly. Treat the exterior wood annually.

Features and extras

  • Contoured thermo-aspen benches with lumbar support
  • Bronze tempered glass door
  • Wi-Fi LED lighting
  • Optional light set and floor kit (about $495 and $195 at Topture)

What owners say

  • Barrels in general: “it’s still a good time and feels nice”, even if not ideal, according to several owners. Fans fix most heat problems.
  • SaunaLife build: owners are broadly happy with heat and value.
  • SaunaLife doors: hinge and seal complaints on glass-front barrel models.
  • Shipping: about $950, sometimes waived by dealers.
  • Instructions: poor. Watch build videos before starting.

Warranty and customer service

The SaunaLife E6 has a limited lifetime warranty, unusually strong for a barrel at this price. Buy through an authorized dealer for straightforward warranty support.

SaunaLife E6 vs Dundalk Harmony

The Dundalk Harmony is a four-person Ontario-made cedar barrel for about $5,950, with a heater sold separately. It has more room and the cedar Dundalk owners rave about. The E6 is cheaper and has the stronger warranty. Read our Dundalk Harmony review.

Final verdict

The SaunaLife E6 is the barrel we’d buy for value: real thermally modified wood, comfortable contoured benches and a lifetime warranty at the lowest price of any barrel we recommend. Add a small fan to even out the heat, check the door hardware, and budget for the heater and freight.

SaunaLife E6 Barrel FAQ

Does the SaunaLife E6 come with a heater?

No. The E6 is sold without a heater. SaunaLife recommends a 6kW electric heater, which typically adds $1,200–$2,000.

How many people fit in the SaunaLife E6?

The E6 is rated for up to three people, but its 59-inch length makes it most comfortable for one or two adults. There isn't room to recline.

Are barrel saunas like the SaunaLife E6 any good?

Yes, with caveats. Barrels heat quickly and are easy to assemble (one owner took 4–5 hours with two people), but low benches leave your feet cooler than your head. Owners fix most of this with a small fan to circulate the air.
