How We Research and Rate Saunas
Our methodology: verified specs, owner reports from Reddit, Trustpilot and retailers, total-cost analysis, and a five-part rating.
HomeSaunas.co reviews are research-based. We don't claim to have tested every sauna in our own homes. Instead, we combine verified manufacturer data with what hundreds of real owners report over months and years, because that's what predicts whether you'll be happy in year five.
1. We verify specs at the source
Capacity, dimensions, power requirements, maximum temperature and warranty terms come from the manufacturer's product page, spec sheet or an authorized dealer, checked on the date shown on each review. When sources disagree, we use the manufacturer's figure and say so.
2. We read the owners
We analyze owner discussions on Reddit (r/Sauna, r/infraredsauna, r/SaunaTent and others), Trustpilot profiles and retailer reviews. We look for patterns: real temperatures, heat-up times, failures, delivery and service experiences. We discount posts that read as promotional, replies from brand accounts, and "reviews" published by competing brands. Every review links its sources.
3. We count the whole cost
A sauna's sticker price is often half the real cost. We add heaters sold separately, freight, electrical work, foundations and roofing, and estimate running costs from heater wattage and average US electricity prices.
4. We rate five things
Each review scores five criteria from 1 to 5. The overall rating is their average.
| Heat and performance | Owner-reported temperatures and heat-up times versus what the brand claims, and how even the heat feels. |
|---|---|
| Build quality and owner-reported reliability | Materials and construction, plus how units hold up according to owners over months and years. |
| Ease of setup and installation | Delivery, assembly difficulty, electrical needs and site preparation. |
| Warranty and customer service | Warranty length and scope, and how owners say the company handles problems. |
| Value for money | What you get for the total installed cost compared with the alternatives. |
5. We tell you who shouldn't buy it
Every product we recommend has a "Skip it if" line, and every review lists the owner complaints we found, including for brands that pay us a commission.
How we make money
We earn commissions through affiliate links, and we recommend products from brands we partner with. Commissions never change what we report about a product's weaknesses. Full disclosure.
